The Modular Building Institute Awards of Distinction represent some of the highest honours in the modular construction industry. The annual awards are a must-attend event at the World of Modular conference, which was held virtually in 2021 as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With a history of receiving honours at the event, NRB was once again proud to be a recipient of a First Place award in 2021. Leading the way in the Relocatable Retail (under 10,000 square feet) category was the sales presentation center we manufactured and installed for Ontario Aoyuan Properties to showcase their first Canadian development project in downtown Toronto.

10 base modules and 10 roof hat modules make up the 6,000+ square foot structure, with 16-foot-high ceilings in the presentation room, large two-storey glazing and open studio space to create walk-through model suites. With the building site supporting a local grocery store and mini-mall through to the beginning of permitting and construction, the necessary time to construct a stick-build sales center was not an option; rather, modular solutions were a perfect fit to meet tight timelines.

NRB’s Laurie Robert also took home an important honour at this year’s Awards of Distinction. Laurie was celebrated with the Outstanding Achievement Award which is given to an individual who has shown dedication to the modular building industry as a whole and to the Modular Building Institute. In receiving her award, Laurie became the first person to ever receive the Outstanding Achievement award for a second time.

Recently retired, Laurie has spent more than three decades in the industry and has been a stalwart in lending support to MBI. We wish her the best as she enters life’s next phase.
